Buying Mesh: Price and Availability

After creating an avatar and wandering around various regions, you may run into an avatar that interests you. You may even wonder how they got their avatar to look like that in the first place. Sadly, not everyone in Second Life is willing to tell you what they’re wearing, where they got it from, or how much it costs. In this segment, we’ll go over the average price of mesh bodies, what many residents use, and the types of avatars available on the market.

The average price of mesh bodies

Chances are you may not be satisfied with the classic body—the body you came with. These default bodies are often not shaded, anatomically correct, or even mesh. Unfortunately, highly detailed mesh bodies come at a price. However, some stores will often have sales or offer free mesh bodies during events and holidays.

There is a multitude of mesh bodies to choose from depending on what you are playing. From human to furry or anime, each body could be inexpensive or expensive depending on its complexity and features. The following graphic above shows the average cost of humanoid mesh bodies that are popular on the market.

What are they wearing?

It’s not rare to find someone wearing a completely non-mesh avatar. Nonetheless, many content creators make nothing for non-mesh avatars. Above shows what heads and bodies some users often use in Second Life. One anonymous user stated, “All above. It depends on my mood. I can’t look cute wearing Lelutka (not Lelutka EvoX ).”

Changing heads and rack up the cost as well and often creators do not refund money for unsatisfactory purchases. Although most shops have demos before purchase, which could help determine which body and head are right for you.

Types of avatars

The beauty of Second Life is also a curse: being whatever you wish to be. Depending on the category of your avatar, it may be difficult to find items for it. Some avatars such as furries have various accessories and attachments. Others such as child avatars or anime avatars have clothing specific to them—and those bodies have subcategories as well.

Whatever the case may be, the Second Life marketplace is a great source for buying items for your avatar—some mesh bodies and heads are even available on the marketplace.
